Peruvian Spring Break 2009

As a part of an International Social Work class spring of 2009, this author and other social work students traveled to Lima Peru. During their trip to Lima, they spent time working at the orphanage Puericultorio Perez Aranibar (PPA). The concept of an orphanage is a stark difference to the foster care system employed in the United States. The PPA serves youth that are infants until they turn 18 years old. Youth are provided residential care for a parents death or inability to provide care for their children. The PPA currently has about 450 children that reside in its immense campus. Approximately 10,000 children are involved in out of home placements in Peru (International Foster Care Organization, 2007; Living in Peru, 2007). Many of these youth are living in large scale orphanages, similar to the PPA. There are both pros and cons to an institutional care setting.

In 2008 my friend Trevor and I both traveled around Europe for about a month and a half. Looking back it was an epic adventure. While I have many more stories then what I wrote about on my blog, but there was lot that I did post about (or put on Facebook). I made lists of all of the content associated with my travels around Europe, here so that you can more easily read about it.

I love Facebook and have posted tons of albums there. The following is a list of all the albums I made on Facebook from my Spring Break in Lima.

I wrote a couple of blog posts during my time in Lima. The following is a list from first to last of all the blog posts that I wrote during my time.

I also uploaded images to my own website to be displayed in the various blog posts. Here is a list of all the images I posted to my website.
