The concerns of juveniles involved in the justice system are often topics of discussion in regards to rehabilitation. SB 5370 addresses job skills training for juvenile offenders as a method of rehabilitation. The process that the bill went through has been fair. The indirect/direct & immediate/long-term costs and benefits show promise for this piece of legislation. It works for juveniles on improving their work related skills and promoting a vulnerable population.

Working with a diverse population requires the social worker examine aspects that make up the population. To fully examine a population, a few of the aspects that should be researched are as follows; best practices for working with the population, cultural background, tradition, norms and values, history of oppression, types of support, family dynamics, spirituality, and body language. The stories that fill Humes book come and address each of these aspects at different points.
Genograms and eco-maps are graphical representations to help process life circumstances. They are useful for describing relationships, characteristics, and seeing interactions form an aerial point of view. They are helpful for those in the helping traditions in working with clients. They can also be helpful when looking into personal history. Genograms help in arriving at a clearer picture of PIE (Person In the Environment) in regards to self-evaluation or with a client. The film In America (2002) serves as an example for how eco-maps can be put together.
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), is a continuum of birth defects related to prenatal consumption of alcohol. It is 100% preventable, yet it affects upwards of 25,320,000 babies each year (this is the top estimate, others are lower). FASD costs the United States upwards of 4 billion dollars per year. It affects children on the bio-psycho-social levels. It ranges from being completely debilitating to minor effects on the child. Children with FASD have many deficiencies, there are also many hidden strengths that can be analyzed and improved upon. FASD also is able to be looked at from a wide variety of angles, including an ecological perspective and though Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development.
