Unit Introduction and What You Will Learn
Week six is asynchronous and focuses on online group work and on using technology to create groups. Cabiati (2021) provides the example of an online support group with social workers as the participants. Barak et al. (2008) provide some context for enhancing empowerment for online support groups. Students will also listen to a podcast episode exploring the use of virtual reality in social work. The forums for this week provide space for students to consider the week’s content and discuss their planned use of technology in their practice.

W-06 A-01: Asynchronous Class Engagement and Attendance
There are three forums for students to participate in. Students are to make at least three replies across the forums. Two of the replies should be your own response to the prompts in the forums, and the third can be a meaningful response to one of your peers’ replies. The following are the forums for this week:
- Reflection on Week Six Content provides a space to reflect on the content shared this week.
- Current Apps or Online Tools encourages students to consider technology-mediated groups and to share resources they find or their experience reviewing an online group.
- Personal Reflection on Technology gives students a platform to be introspective and reflective about how they see themselves using and engaging with technology in social work.

They frequently have episodes related to technology in social work, and you can browse a curated list of episodes if that is interesting to you. This week, I wanted to expose you to an episode they published about using virtual reality in social work.
