I hope that you are all well. I want to apologize. I had planned to have all of your papers graded before I submitted my midterm grades. With travel and I have child that has been in the hospital (she is doing ok) I haven’t been able to finsh them. I will prioritize getting them done when I am back next week so you have my feedback.

Unit Introduction and What You Will Learn

Week nine is asynchronous, with no in-person class. This week is dedicated to the Teach Back Activity. Each group recorded a video teaching their classmates how to assess one area of functioning from Hepworth et al. (2023) chapter nine, and each group has its own forum this week. Students watch the videos, engage with each group’s material, and respond to questions about their own group’s topic.

Learning objectives for the week include:

  • Explain how to assess an area of client functioning to peers, including the questions a social worker might ask
  • Apply assessment concepts from other groups’ presentations to practice settings and client situations
  • Engage in discussion that deepens understanding of biophysical, cognitive/perceptual, affective, behavioral, and environmental assessment

Unit Assignments

Teach Back Activity

One member of each group posts the group’s video in that group’s forum by Monday (10/19) at 5 PM. See the W-09 Teach Back Activity assignment and the Teach Back Activity Handout for the full description. The post should include:

  • The video, or a link to it
  • A short description of what the group’s content covers
  • The names of everyone in the group
  • Some discussion, such as the key takeaways from your topic and a question or two to start the conversation

The Groups for Week 09 Teach Back Activity document lists the groups and topics.

Sharing your video. The assignment on MyHeritage is set up as a Learning Tool using Panopto, so you can record directly through Panopto or upload a pre-recorded video (for example, from Zoom). If using Panopto, you will need to adjust the video’s sharing settings: hover over the video, select the share icon, copy the link, and set “Who can access this video” to public (unlisted). Paste that link into your forum post. You may also host your video on another platform, such as YouTube, Canva, or Google Drive, and share the link instead. Whatever you use, check that the link opens for someone who is not in your group before you post it.

W-09 A-01: Class Participation and Engagement

The expectation is that each of your replies will be substantive and provide meaningful perspectives, contributing to the forum’s conversation and scholarship. There are five forums for this week, one for each teach back group. You are expected to make at least 3 replies across the other groups’ forums and to watch all of the videos. In your replies, you might:

  • Share how you could apply the information in a practice setting or with a client
  • Build on ideas the group brought up, or add ideas of your own
  • Ask questions about the content

Group members should also check their own group’s forum through the week and do their best to answer questions posed to the group. These forums include the following:

All of your replies must be completed before 8 AM on Monday (10/26).
