Unit Introduction and What You Will Learn
Week 11 is looking at how we effect change with our clients. This is generally the goal with most services we provide as social workers. To understand how we effect change, we will look at following:
- Additive Empathy & Interpretation
- Confrontation
- Barriers to change

“Effecting change with clients discussion forum” with an initial post due Friday 11/06/20 at 11:55 PM and two replies due Sunday 11/08/20 at 11:55 PM via My Heritage Class Forums
Purpose: To give students an opportunity to participating in discussion about how they see effecting change for their clients and future practice.
Task: There are different lenses that people see the understand the process of of change for. Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) provides many helpful and useful resources. Hepworth et al. (2017) discusses SAMHSA working definition of recovery. Go to the brochure and read through it. Write a post in the form discussing what aspect of the 10 principles for recovery you find to be the most important and how you see implementing that into your practice.
Criterion fro Success: Students will write a paragraph or two about one or two of the principles of recovery and how they hope to implement it in their practice. Students will respond to at last two of their fellow students in replies having a dialog.
